Wolverines finish sixth at PAC Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's track and field team accumulated 58.5 points to finish in sixth place in the first official Presidents' Athletic Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, held at Youngstown State University's Watson and Tressel Training Site on Thursday evening.

Grove City had two men win individual titles on the evening. Sophomore Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) claimed his first conference indoor title by winning the 60-meter hurdles in 8.42 seconds, establishing a new conference indoor meet record in the process.

Freshman Graham Allen (Upper Dublin, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) continued his dominance in the 800, running a meet-record time of 1:57.45 to win the race by more than three and a half seconds. For Allen, it is his third consecutive victory in the 800 this season.

Junior Tom Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Wolverine field contingent by tying for third in the high jump with a best leap of six feet even. Freshman Nathaniel Longjohn (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills), in his first meet as a Wolverine, finished fourth in the pole vault by clearing 11 feet, 5.75 inches while senior Jason Glacken (South Fork, Pa./Forest Hills) was the lone Grove City thrower to score, posting a seventh-place heave of 42 feet, 2.75 inches.

Freshman distance runner Nick McClure (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) posted a pair of scoring finishes on the night, taking fifth in the 5000 with a time of 16:13.97 and sixth in the mile in 4:37.28. Sophomore Ryan Buchalter (Colorado Springs, Colo./Colorado Springs Christian) ran a 50.88 in the 400 to take fifth in the event while freshman Evan Carroscia (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) was eighth with a time of 51.71 seconds.

Betz added a sixth-place finish in the 200 (23.04) while junior Dane Mossgrove (Indiana, Pa./Indiana) joined Betz in the 60 hurdles finals with a sixth-place time of 9.10 seconds. Sophomore Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) took seventh in the 5000 (16:23.98) while junior Joshua Dunsworth (Erie, Pa./Collegiate Academy) was eighth in the 800 in 2:04.13.

Grove City's 4x400 relay of Buchalter, junior Brandon Ward (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory), Betz and Allen finished fourth with a time of 3:26.86 in a race where just .67 seconds separated first from fourth.

Betz has qualified for the ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships in the 60m hurdles, which will be held at the New York City Armory next weekend.
