Grove City 3rd at Westminster

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's track and field team placed third at the 22-team Westminster Invitational Saturday at Memorial Field. The Wolverines accumulated 80 team points. Penn State Behrend won the event with 112.5 points and Malone recorded 110 points.

Three Grove City athletes earned wins Saturday and two school records also fell during the meet. Sophomore Nick Betz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Discovery Canyon) broke his own school record in the 110 hurdles by posting a victorious time of 14.78 seconds.

Sophomore Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) won the 10,000 in 32:55.44 while freshman Evan Carroscia (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) captured the 400 hurdles in 55.24 seconds.

Freshman Graham Allen (Upper Dublin, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) placed third in the 800 meters with a Grove City-record time of 1:55.50. That broke the previous mark of 1:55.61, set by Brian Herrick in 1987.

Sophomore Brandon Wise (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) earned third in the 10,000 (34:19.84) while freshman Quinton Reed (Oil City, Pa./Oil City) led Grove City's field contingent by earning third in the javelin with a best throw of 169 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Sophomore Andrew Mascio (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) placed fourth in the 10,000 (34:42.71), one spot ahead of junior Jack Erickson (Victor, N.Y./Victor), who recorded a time of 36:06.86.

Betz also placed fifth in the 400 hurdles (56.45) while sophomore Gabe Imhof (Strasburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite) captured fifth in the 1500 with a time of 4:13.44. Junior Tom Kocur (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) cleared 5-11 in the high jump to earn fifth place.

Grove City returns to action Thursday afternoon at the Presidents' Athletic Conference North Quad in Beaver Falls, Pa.
