Wolverines take tenth at NCAA
CARLISLE, PA, November 11, 2000--The Grove City College men's cross country team placed 10th out of 34 schools at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championship, hosted by Dickinson College at Carlisle High School in Carlisle, PA.
Freshman Steve Brown (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Twp.) paced the Wolverines with a 35th-place finish in the field of 245 runners. Brown's 8,000-meter time of 27:42.30 earned him a spot on the All-Mideast Team, which comprises the top 35 finishers.
Sophomore Ryan Mitchell (Centerville, OH/Centerville) was the next Wolverine to cross, securing 50th place with a time of 28:07.80.
Grove City placed three other runners in the top 100 runners as junior Josh Bolinger (Warren, OH/Lakeview) finished in 62nd place with a time of 28:21.30. Sophomore Brad Wray (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) placed 72nd in 28:33.30, while junior Zach Groom (Cumberland, ME/Greely) took 85th place in 28:51.90. Sophomore Shawn Rummel (New Bethlehem, PA/Red Bank Valley) was the sixth Wolverine to cross, beating nearly 60% of the field with a 104th-place time of 29:10.10. Senior John Sabella (Grand Valley, PA/Tidioute) finished in the top half with a time of 29:18.50 -- good for 112th place overall.
Haverford College won the regional championship with 40 points. The Wolverines placed 10th in the team standings behind runner-up Allegheny College (117), Elizabethtown College (137), Widener University (164), Gettysburg College (222), Carnegie Mellon University (257), Moravian College (258), Susquehanna University (276) and Dickinson College (284).
