GCC men's team wins home invite


SLIPPERY ROCK, PA, October 12, 2001--The Wolverine cross country team placed seven runners in the Top 10 and captured first place at the Grove City College Invitational, held at the Shamrock Golf Course in Slippery Rock on a damp and overcast Friday afternoon.

Junior Ryan Mitchell (Dayton, OH/Centerville) paced the Wolverines with a second-place overall time of 31:29.  Kevin Ritzent of Penn State Behrend College won the 48-man race in 31:18.

Grove City senior Josh Bolinger (Warren, OH/Lakeview) placed third overall with a time of 32:14, followed by sophomore teammate Steve Brown (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Twp.), who clocked a 32:20.  Junior Derek Stauff (Quakertown, PA/Conrad Weiser) took sixth in 32:35, while freshman Daniel Adams (Derwood, MD/Col. Zadok Magruder), junior Brad Wray (Lewistown, PA/Indian Valley) and sophomore Jacob Anderson (Duluth, MN/Duluth East) crossed in places eight, nine and 10, respectively, in 32:46, 32:49 and 32:56.

The Wolverines won the meet with 23 team points.  They were followed by runner-up Penn State Behrend (38), Bethany (90) and Thiel (109).

It marked the first time that Shamrock Golf Course hosted a cross country event.  The course measured better than five miles.
