Grove City men capture PAC title; Brown individual champ
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Led by a first-place finish from senior Steve Brown (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township), the Grove City College men's cross country team captured its 13th Presidents' Athletic Conference title since 1990 Friday afternoon at Westminster College.
Brown's victory helped Grove City finish with just 21 team points. Westminster (43), Thiel (86), Bethany (108) and Waynesburg (129) rounded out the top five.
Brown completed the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 21 seconds, nearly a half-minute faster than runner-up Sean Gallagher of Westminster. In all, six Grove City runners finished in the top eight while a seventh runner took 11th in the field.
Junior Dan Adams (Derwood, Md./Col. Zadok Magruder) placed third in 26:59 while classmate Chris Lee (Pompton Plains, N.J./Trinity Christian) placed fourth in 27:04. Senior Jack Anderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East) and sophomore Dan Chittick (Glenside, Pa./Cheltenham) took sixth and seventh, respectively, earning PAC First Team honors. Anderson turned in a time of 27:34 while Chittick crossed two seconds later.
Senior Nick Gingerich (Burton, Ohio/Berkshire) placed eighth in 27:47 while freshman Andy Leuenberger (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) joined Gingerich on the PAC's Second Team with an 11th-place finish in 28:46.
