Grove City competes at Penn State

UNIVERSITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed 19th out of 24 teams at Penn State's Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday. Grove City accumulated 585 team points to finish 19th. The 24-team field featured eight NCAA Division I programs and seven NCAA Division II teams. Syracuse won the team title with 50 points.

Sophomore Daniel Spaulding (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led the Wolverines with a 77th-place finish. He covered the course in 28 minutes, 9.85 seconds. Freshman Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) crossed in 119th with a time of 29:15.80.

Also for Grove City, sophomore Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) took 124th (29:24.10) while junior Joey Cortez (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City Lincoln) finished 127th with a time of 29:37.80. Sophomore Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) posted a time of 29:59.15, good for 138th.

Grove City will compete in the Lehigh Invitational Friday afternoon.
