Grove City 12th at CMU
PITTSBURGH -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed 12th at the 19-team Carnegie Mellon Invitational Saturday in Schenley Park. The Wolverine men accumulated 315 team points. Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 43 points.
Sophomore Daniel Spaulding (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) led Grove City with a 45th-place finish. Spaulding completed the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 10.43 seconds.
Sophomore Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) finished 76th in 27:56.45 while freshman Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) placed 80th with a mark of 28:00.51. Junior Joey Cortez (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City Lincoln) took 89th in 28:13.53. Freshman Arne Ulbrich (Bremen, Germany/Bedford, Pa.) crossed in 101th place with a time of 28:32.54.
A total of 220 runners competed in the event, which featured seven scholarship-level programs. Saturday's race represented Grove City's final tune-up for the upcoming Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships. The PAC Championships will be held at Waynesburg College Oct. 28.
