Grove City takes 10th at Mideast Regional

WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country placed 10th overall at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Saturday at Waynesburg College. The Wolverines accumulated 304 total team points. Haverford (51) edged Allegheny (54) for the team title in the 39-team field.

Sophomore Daniel Spaulding (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) finished 36th to help lead Grove City. Spaulding completed the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 36 seconds. Sophomore Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) crossed in 52nd place with a time of 28:05 while freshman Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) placed 65th (28:16).

Sophomore Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) took 71st place in 28:24 while freshman Frankie Hourigan (Frederick, Md./Urbana) finished in 80th place with a time of 28:37. Junior Joey Cortez (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City Lincoln) took 88th (28:44) while freshman Jonathan Srour (York, Pa./Christian School of York) took 141st (29:44).

The 10th-place finish is Grove City's best at the Mideast Regional Championships since the 1999 team took ninth out of 30 teams.
