Grove City wins California Invitational
CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- Six members of the Grove City College men's cross country team placed in the top 11 Saturday morning at the eight-team California University of Pennsylvania Invitational, helping the Wolverines capture the team title with just 22 total team points. Host California took second with 56 points while Mercyhurst took third with 60 points.
Junior Dan Spaulding (Rochester, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) and freshman Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) tied for the individual title as each covered the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 36.20 seconds. Junior Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) took third, finishing one-tenth of a second behind Spaulding and Cichowitz.
Sophomore Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) placed eighth with a time of 28:06.50 while freshman Gordon Grob (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished 10th in 28:14.60. Freshman Cordell Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) placed 11th in 28:26.40 while sophomore Andrew Falcone (Dormont, Pa./Robinson Twp. Christian) claimed 16th (29:02.50).
Grove City will return to action September 28 by competing in the Lehigh Invitational.
