Wolverines claim 4th at Gettysburg
GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed fourth at the 15-team Gettysburg Invitational Saturday morning. The Wolverines accumulated 108 team points, trailing only Shippensburg (52 points), Ohio Wesleyan (76) and the Coast Guard Academy (79). Dickinson, ranked 28th nationally by the United States Track and Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), finished fifth with 123 points.
Freshman Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with a fourth-place finish in the 171-runner field. Cichowitz completed the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 42.23 seconds. He placed second among NCAA Division III runners and finished just eight seconds behind Coast Guard's Mike Persun, the race winner.
Junior Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) took 19th overall in 27:14.69 while classmate Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) finished 23rd with a time of 27:18.97. Also for Grove City, junior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) placed 30th in 27:40.34 and sophomore Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) came home in 32nd (27:44.90).
Freshman Gordon Grob (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) also landed in the top 50 with a 41st-place time of 27:56.49.
Grove City returns to action in two weeks at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships in Latrobe, Pa., hosted by Saint Vincent College.
