Wolverines win conference title

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team captured its 18th consecutive Presidents' Athletic Conference title Saturday by placing first at the 2007 PAC Championships, hosted by Saint Vincent College. Grove City accumulated a mere 25 team points in successfully defending its conference title. W&J took second with 46 points, followed by Westminster (95), Thiel (113), Waynesburg (136) and Bethany (140).

Freshman Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with a fifth-place finish. Cichowitz completed the 8-kilometer course in 27 minutes, 29 seconds. Four other Grove City runners joined Cichowitz on the PAC First Team.

Freshman Gordon Grob (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned seventh place with a time of 27:48 while junior Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) took eighth in 27:52. Junior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) finished ninth with a time of 28:00, nine seconds ahead of 10th-place classmate Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air).

Senior Joey Cortez (Ellwood City, Pa./Ellwood City Lincoln) earned Second Team All-PAC honors by finishing 12th (28:17). Sophomore Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) also earned Second Team accolades by finishing 17th. Hourigan posted a time of 28:39.

Freshman Cordell Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) took 24th in 29:08 while sophomore Joshua Lauer (Kobe, Japan/Homeschooled) placed 25th (29:10). Sophomore Jonathan Srour (York, Pa./Christian School of York) finished 26th with a time of 29:10.

Grove City head coach Sean Severson earned PAC Coach of the Year honors.

Saint Vincent junior Adam Smith won the individual race with a time of 26:20. Due to Saint Vincent's provisional NCAA Division III status, runner-up Matt Rudzki of Washington & Jefferson received PAC MVP honors.

Grove City will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships November 10.
