Grove City captures title at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- Five Grove City College men's cross country runners placed in the top eight Saturday morning at Westminster College's 12-team Fisher Invitational, helping vault the Wolverines to the team title. Grove City accrued just 21 points in winning the crown. Penn State Behrend took second with 88 points, followed by Gannon with 111.
Sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with a second-place individual finish. Cichowitz covered the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 54.5 seconds. Senior Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) placed third in 27:20.3, one spot ahead of classmate Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili). Spaulding posted a time of 27:35.2.
Junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) finished sixth in 27:57.0 while sophomore Gordon Grob (Hudson, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took eighth in 28:33.2. Senior Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) recorded a time of 28:54.6 to earn 13th while sophomore Cordell Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) finished 16th with a time of 29:10.2.
Senior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) crossed in 18th place with a time of 29:14.6.
Franciscan's Bill Jones earned medalist with a time of 26:49.0.
Grove City will compete in the California University of Pennsylvania Invitational next Saturday, September 6.
