Wolverines earn 4th at CUP

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team took fourth at the 11-team California University of Pennsylvania Invitational Saturday morning. Grove City accumulated 89 points and trailed only three scholarship-level institutions. California won the team title with 45 points while fellow NCAA Division II member Slippery Rock had 52 points. NCAA Division I member Saint Francis (Pa.) placed third with 75.

Seven Grove City runners placed in the top 32 Saturday. Sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with an eighth-place finish. Cichowitz covered the course in 27 minutes, 11 seconds.

Senior Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon) placed 12th in 27:34 while junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) finished 18th (28:02). Sophomore Joe Dorris (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) crossed in 21st place with a time of 28:12 while sophomore Cordell Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) took 30th in 28:46.

Senior Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) finished 31st (28:48) while senior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) took 32nd (28:50).

Slippery Rock's Pat Regan won medalist honors with a victorious time of 25:05.

Grove City will compete in the Waynesburg Invitational next Saturday, September 13.
