Wolverines earn 9th at Lehigh
BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed ninth out of 41 teams at Lehigh University's Paul Short "White" Invitational Friday afternoon. The Wolverines accumulated 307 points to take ninth overall and sixth among NCAA Division III programs. Ithaca won with 97 points while Messiah took second at 138.
Sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with a 13th-place finish. Cichowitz covered the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 13 seconds. He placed sixth among NCAA Division III runners.
Senior Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) took 19th in a time of 26:25.
Junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) took 61st in the 270-runner field with a time of 27:19 while senior Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) finished 104th with a time of 27:56. Junior Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) crossed two seconds behind Kelly and finished 110th in the field.
Wake Forest's Greg Billington won the individual race in a time of 25:21. Grove City had not competed since running in the Waynesburg Invitational Sept. 13.
The Wolverines will return to action October 18 at Oberlin College's Inter-Regional Invitational.
