Grove City earns 13th at Oberlin

OBERLIN, Ohio -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed 13th out of 30 teams Saturday at Oberlin College's Inter-Regional Rumble. The Wolverines accumulated 372 points at the 8-kilometer event. New York University won the team title with 47 points while Dickinson placed second at 104.

Two Grove City runners broke the school record for 8,000 meters in Saturday's race. Sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) took 30th overall with a time of 25 minutes, 36 seconds. Senior Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) finished 33rd with a time of 25:40. Cichowitz set the previous record, 25:42, last season.

Also for the Wolverines, senior Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) finished 92nd in 26:29 while junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) placed 98th with a time of 26:34. Sophomore Joe Dorris (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) posted a time of 26:51 to earn 119th.

A total of 270 runners competed in the race. NYU's Jesse S. Schneider won the race with a time of 24:43.

Grove City will compete in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships November 1 in Mason, Ohio. Thomas More College is the host institution. Grove City is seeking its 18th consecutive conference title.
