Grove City captures 9th at Mideast meet
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team wrapped up the 2008 season Saturday by finishing ninth out at the 41-team NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Waynesburg University at the Greene County Airport.
Grove City earned 263 total points to finish ninth. Carnegie Mellon won the team title with 37 points.
Sophomore Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) led Grove City with a 17th-place finish. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 1 second.
Senior Dan Spaulding (Spencerport, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) took 22nd overall with a time of 26:14. Classmate Brett Kelly (Abingdon, Md./Bel Air) placed 49th overall in 26:55 while sophomore Joe Dorris (Philadelphia, Pa./Upper Dublin) placed 83rd with a time of 27:24.
Also for Grove City, junior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) took 92nd in 27:36. Senior Tim Su (Lancaster, Pa./Conestoga Valley) placed 126th in 28:11, two spots ahead of senior Nathan Johnson (Eugene, Ore./Sheldon). Johnson posted a time of 28:15.
Carnegie Mellon's Brian Harvey won the individual race with a time of 25:10.
Invitations to next weekend's NCAA Championships in Hanover, Ind. will be awarded Sunday.
