Wolverines 2nd at California; Cichowitz wins title

BELLE VERNON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team took second out of seven teams at the California (Pa.) University Invitational at Willowbrook Golf Course Saturday morning. Grove City accumulated 51 points and trailed only NCAA Division II member Seton Hill. Seton Hill tallied 38 points.

Junior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) won the individual title by completing the course in 26 minutes, 24 seconds. He won the race by a 15-second margin over Seton Hill's Mike Ortiz.

Senior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) earned sixth with a time of 27:05 while classmate Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) finished 11th in 27:39.

Freshman Josiah Husk (Bloomington, Ill./University) made his collegiate debut with a 13th-place finish (27:52) while junior Cordell Oberholtzer (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) took 20th place with a time of 28:51.

Freshmen Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Bensalem) and Wes Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) rounded out Grove City's top seven by finishing 21st and 25th, respectively. Coyle posted a time of 28:52 while Coopersmith finished the course in 29:11.

Grove City will compete in the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational Friday afternoon.
