Wolverines win conference title

LATROBE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team earned its 19th Presidents' Athletic Conference championship Saturday afternoon by earning 29 team points at PAC Championships, hosted by Saint Vincent. Saint Vincent, which is not eligible for the PAC title due to its provisional status in NCAA Division III, earned 37 points.

Junior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) won the individual race for Grove City as he completed the 8-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 41 seconds. He posted a 43-second margin of victory over Saint Vincent's Kevin Wanichko, who placed second.

Senior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) earned third place with a time of 27:39 while classmate Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) took fourth in 27:45.

Freshman Josiah Husk (Bloomington, Ill./University) captured sixth place overall (28:04) and senior Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) took 15th in 28:30.

Also for the Wolverines, freshman Wes Tomer (Roslyn, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) placed 19th in 28:50 while classmate Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) finished 24th (29:11).

Cichowitz, Hourigan, Husk, Kruse and Hyland all earned First Team All-PAC. Coyle and Tomer each receive Second Team All-PAC status.

Freshman Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) earned 25th (29:18) while freshman Wes Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) earned 29th (29:38). Sophomore Tyler Gheres (Edinboro, Pa./General McLane) finished 30th (29:39).

Grove City will compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships November 14 in Bethlehem, Pa.
