Grove City takes 10th at Mideast Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team capped the 2009 season Saturday by earning 10th place at the 51-team NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Muhlenberg College. Grove City accumulated 363 team points in taking 10th. Allegheny won the team title with 59 points.

Junior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) earned All-Region honors for Grove City by placing fifth overall. He completed the eight-kilometer course in a school-record time of 25 minutes, 13.3 seconds. By virtue of his finish, Cichowitz will compete in next Saturday's NCAA Championships, hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College.

Senior Frankie Hourigan (Ijamsville, Md./Urbana) placed 64th overall for Grove City with a time of 26:42.6 while freshman Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) finished 89th in 27:15.2. Senior Royce Hyland (Boise, Idaho/Boise) earned 102nd place (27:25.3), edging freshman teammate Josiah Husk (Bloomington, Ill./University). Husk placed 103rd with a time of 27:25.5.

Also for the Wolverines, senior Derek Kruse (Middlefield, Ohio/Cardinal) finished 116th in 27:34.3 and freshman Wes Tomer (Roslyn, Pa./Phil-Mont Christian) earned 124th (27:40.1).

Allegheny's Chris Marker won the individual race with a time of 24:54.3.

It is Grove City's fourth consecutive top-10 finish at the Mideast Regionals. Grove City took 10th in 2006 and ninth in 2007. The Wolverines also placed ninth in a 41-team field last year.
