Wolverines win at Westminster
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team opened the 2010 season Saturday morning by capturing the team championship at Westminster College's Fisher Invitational. Grove City accumulated 50 points to win the team title. NCAA Division II member Alderson-Broaddus placed second with 67 points.
Seven Grove City runners placed in the top 20 Saturday, led by senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer). Cichowitz finished second overall with a time of 26 minutes, 30.5 seconds.
Freshman Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) earned fifth place by posting a time of 26:55.2. Classmate Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) placed 12th in 27:35.8 and fellow freshman Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) took 15th (27:45.0).
Also for Grove City, sophomore Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) took 16th in 27:46.6 and freshman Paulson Domansky (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) captured 17th (27:48.0). Sophomore Wesley Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) finished 20th with a time of 27:59.5.
Franciscan's Bill Jones won the individual title with a time of 25:46.3. A total of 103 runners competed in the event.
Grove City will compete in the Waynesburg Invitational next Saturday, September 11.
