Grove City earns 2nd; Cichowitz MVP
WAYNESBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country placed second at the nine-team Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Waynesburg University Saturday at Greene County Airport. Grove City recorded 66 team points. Saint Vincent won the title with 32 team points.
Senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) earned the conference's Most Valuable Performer award after winning the individual race. Cichowitz covered the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 49.44 seconds. It is the second straight year that Cichowitz has earned PAC MVP honors.
Freshman Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) took 12th in 27:09.43 while freshman Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) earned 15th (27:32.71). Freshman Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned 19th place with a time of 27:55.23 and sophomore Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) placed 20th in 28:04.57.
Sophomore Caleb Henry (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) finished 21st (28:04.57) and sophomore Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) took 26th (28:15.71).
Cichowitz also earned First Team All-PAC. McRae and Schultz landed on the PAC's Second Team. Grove City has won 19 of the last 20 conference titles. This is the first season that Saint Vincent has been eligible for PAC championships after fully completing its transition from NAIA to NCAA Division III.
The Wolverines will return to action November 13 at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Cooper's Lake in Slippery Rock, Pa.
