Cichowitz earns All-Mideast; Wolverines 18th overall

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team concluded the 2010 season Saturday afternoon by placing 18th out of 51 teams at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Cooper's Lake Campground. Grove City finished with 517 team points overall. Haverford won the team title with 23 team points.

Senior Garrett Cichowitz (Colorado Springs, Colo./Palmer) earned his third straight trip to next week's NCAA Championships by finishing 17th overall. He completed the 8,000-meter course in 25 minutes, 40.7 seconds. By finishing in the top 35, Cichowitz also earned All-Mideast Region recognition.

Freshman Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) finished 82nd overall with a time of 27:12.5 while sophomore Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) took 128th in 27:56.5.

Freshman Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) took 133rd (28:01.8) and sophomore Caleb Henry (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) finished 157th with a 28:24.7 clocking. Henry edged freshman Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), who finished 158th in 28:26.5.

Sophomore Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) rounded out the Wolverine effort by taking 161st in 28:30.2.

Haverford's Anders Hulleberg won medalist honors with a time of 24:59.7. A total of 316 runners competed in the event.

Cichowitz will compete in the NCAA Division III Championships next Saturday at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. He earned 70th at the 2009 NCAA Championships.
