Wolverines 3rd in conference

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed third out of nine teams at the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships Saturday, hosted by Westminster College. Grove City finished the day with 76 points. Saint Vincent won its second straight league title with 35 points and Thiel took second with 70 points.

Sophomore Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) led Grove City by finishing sixth overall in the 100-runner field. Schultz posted a time of 27 minutes, 30.5 seconds over eight kilometers and earned First Team All-PAC.

Sophomore Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) placed 15th in 28:29.5, one spot ahead of junior Wesley Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge). Coopersmith took 16th with a time of 28:34.4. Sophomore Paulson Domasky (Pittsburgh, Pa./North Hills) finished 19th (28:41.1).

Junior Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) joined that quartet in the top 20 by earning 20th place with a time of 28:49. Sophomore Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) finished 23rd (28:58.8) and sophomore Mike Miller (Canton, Ohio/Canton South) placed 25th with a time of 29:01.60.

McRae, Coopersmith, Domasky and Coyle received All-PAC Honorable Mention.

Saint Vincent senior Kevin Wanichko won the individual race with a victorious time of 26:37.3.

Grove City will compete in the College of Wooster Twilight 5K Friday night. The Wolverines conclude the season November 12 at the NCAA Mideast Championships in Center Valley, Pa.
