Grove City takes 2nd at CUP

CALIFORNIA, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team opened the 2012 season Saturday morning by finishing second out of five teams at California University of Pennsylvania's Marty Uher Invitational. The Wolverines finished the meet with 46 points, trailing only Division II program Indiana (Pa.), which won the title with 42 points.

Three Grove City runners placed in the top 10 Saturday. Junior Alec Schultz (Wayzata, Minn./Orono) took second overall with a time of 28 minutes, 59 seconds for eight kilometers.

Junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) earned sixth place in 29:38 and senior Wesley Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) finished 10th with a time of 30:27.

Also for Grove City, junior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) finished 13th (30:55), senior Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) placed 15th in 31:06, junior Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) took 17th (31:19) and senior Caleb Henry (Lumberton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) captured 18th place with a time of 31:31.

California senior Chris Ross won the individual race with a time of 28:47.

Grove City returns to action Friday, September 14 at the Slippery Rock University Invitational.
