Grove City takes 6th at Gettysburg

GETTYSBURG, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team placed sixth overall at the 35-team Gettysburg Invitational Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines finished with 198 points, good for third among NCAA Division III programs at the event.

Division II Lock Haven won the team title with 50 points, followed by Division I Bucknell (79 points). Shippensburg (122) took third, followed by Salisbury (164) and Denison (190).

Junior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) led Grove City with a fifth-place overall finish. McRae completed the eight-kilometer course in 25 minutes, 55 seconds. He finished second among D-III runners in the meet.

Junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) took 26th overall in 26:31 while senior Wesley Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) earned 43rd in 26:51. Senior Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost) placed 79th (27:24) and junior Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) came home 92nd with a time of 27:37.

Also for Grove City, senior Ben Henderson (Cheshire, Conn./Cheshire) finished 126th (28:08) and senior Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) placed 138th (28:18).

Shippensburg senior Matt Gillette won the individual race in 25:21. Denison junior Chad Kosanovich led the Division III entrants with a fourth-place time of 25:54.

The Wolverines return to action October 27 for the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at Bethany College in Bethany, W.Va.
