Wolverines take 12th at Mideast meet

NEWVILLE, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team concluded the 2012 season Saturday afternoon by finishing 12th at the 55-team NCAA Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by Dickinson College at Big Spring High School. Grove City finished the meet with 418 team points. Haverford won the title with 63 points, followed by Carnegie Mellon (92) and Johns Hopkins (110).

Junior Arleigh McRae (East Brookfield, Mass./Whitinsville Christian) led Grove City by placing 53rd overall. He completed the eight-kilometer course in 26 minutes, 50.2 seconds.

Junior Mark Talbott (Tallmadge, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) placed 77th in 27:14.9 while senior Tim Coyle (Langhorne, Pa./Holy Ghost Prep) took 84th (27:21.9). Senior Wesley Coopersmith (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) finished 90th in 27:25.6 and sophomore Peter Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Homeschooled) earned 125th with a 28:02.2 clocking.

Senior Francis Ridge (Derby, N.Y./Lake Shore) came home 149th (28:18.8) and junior Matt Mucha (Parma, Ohio/Cuyahoga Falls) rounded out the Wolverine effort by taking 238th in 29:48.3

Allegheny's Bobby Over won the regional title with a time of 25:09.6. The field featured 343 runners.

The 12th-place team finish is the best for Grove City since 2009, when the Wolverines took 10th in a 51-team field.
