Wolverines open with 3rd-place finish

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team opened the 2014 season Friday evening by earning third place at the Buffalo State University's Daniel Walker Invitational. Grove City accumulated 60 teams in the meet and trailed only Geneseo State (22 points) and Buffalo State (55).

Five Wolverine competitors finished in the top 20, led by a seventh-place finish from senior Peter Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Broadfording Christian). Christiansen took seventh with a time of 25 minutes, 51 seconds.

Freshman Nick McClure (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) made his collegiate debut by finishing 13th with a time of 26:20. Classmate Drew Thibault (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) debuted with a 16th-place finish (26:38) while sophomore Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) earned 17th place in 26:44.

Sophomore Brandon Wise (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) took 20th overall in 26:57.

Geneseo's Alex Burks won the individual race with a time of 25:07. Geneseo placed eight men in the top 12.

Grove City returns to action September 13 at the Bethany College Invitational.
