Wolverines 2nd in home invitational

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Grove City College men's cross country team opened the 2015 season Tuesday evening by placing second at the Wolverines' inaugural Kickoff Invite. Grove City finished with 45 team points, trailing only Allegheny (17) in the team standings. Geneva (77 points), Waynesburg (123) and Westminster (142) rounded out the standings.

Junior Daniel Christiansen (Frederick, Md./Frederick) led Grove City by finishing fifth overall. He completed the five-kilometer course in 16 minutes, 19.93 seconds. Sophomore Nick McClure (Wexford, Pa./North Allegheny) placed sixth with a time of 16:27.18.

Freshman Ryan Budnik (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) earned ninth place (16:48.10) while junior Brandon Wise (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) placed 13th with a time of 17:08.18. Junior Andrew Mascio (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) took 14th place in 17:10.92, one spot ahead of junior Gabe Imhof (Strasburg, Pa./Lancaster Mennonite). Imhof recorded a time of 17:14.98.

Sophomore Drew Thibault (Durham, N.H./Oyster River) finished 17th with a time of 17:19.51. Allegheny's Carter Smith won the race with a winning time of 16:10.84.

Tuesday's event marked the first home cross country meet for Grove City since 1999.

Grove City returns to action September 11 at the Penn State Spiked Shoe Invitational.
