Leuenberger earns Academic All-America
GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Grove City College junior cross country/track and field performer Andrew Leuenberger (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) has been selected as a College Division Third Team Academic All-American for cross country and track and field by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and ESPN The Magazine.
Leuenberger is a three-year cross country letterman and has also earned two letters as a distance runner for Grove City. In 2006, he helped the men's track and field team to its second straight PAC title April 29 by placing third in the 5000 and fifth in the 10,000.
As a sophomore in 2004, Leuenberger achieved First Team All-PAC in cross country with a fourth-place finish overall. He finished 14th individually at the 2005 PAC Championships. He has helped Grove City to three straight PAC cross country titles during his career.
In the classroom, Leuenberger owns a 3.99 cumulative grade-point average in molecular biology. He has been inducted into the Omicron Delta Kappa and Mortar Board honoraries as well as the Beta Beta Beta biology honorary. Leuenberger is president of Grove City's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and is secretary of the conference's SAAC.
He also received the Naegele Award, which is presented to the junior biology major with the highest academic achievement. Leuenberger is also a Presidential Scholarship recipient.
Leuenberger is also president of the College's chapter of Fellowship of Christian Athletes and is treasurer of the Grove City Environmental Club.
He is the second Grove City student-athlete to earn CoSIDA Academic All-America honors this year. In May, senior baseball player Mike Ritter (Moon Township, Pa./Moon) earned Second Team Academic All-America. This is the fourth straight year that Grove City has produced multiple Academic All-Americans.
