|DR. JIM CHINN- Assistant Track & Field Coach (Sprints/Hurdles)|
Jim Chinn is his seventh season as an assistant track and field coach at
Grove City College. Chinn works primarily with Grove City's sprinters and
hurdlers. He has helped lead the men's track and field team to three
Presidents' Athletic Conference titles since joining the coaching staff in
Prior to taking over the sprint squad, Chinn coach Grove City's throwers. Grove City throwers won nine conference titles under Chinn's guidance. In 2009, Matt Six won the PAC title in discus and Matt Ridge took first in the shot put. Both athletes successfully defended their respective conference titles in 2010 and Six also broke a 24-year old school record in the discus with a throw of 161 feet, 4 inches.
Grove City throwers accumulated 42 total team points at the 2010 conference championships while the 2009 throwing squad tallied 51 team points on the men's side. In 2007, Bob Perri earned NCAA Division III All-America honors in the shot put by placing eighth at the NCAA Championships.
Chinn is also an assistant football coach at Grove City. He coordinates the Wolverines' passing game while also coaching the running backs and special teams. While at Grove City, Chinn has helped the Wolverines develop one of the region's most prolific and balanced offensive attacks. Grove City's special teams units have broken several program records in recent years under Chinn's direction.
Chinn joined the Grove City athletic department in 2003 after spending six years-- including four as head football coach-- at Blackburn College in Carlinville, Ill. Prior to working at Blackburn, Chinn worked at Denison University for two years.
His collegiate coaching career began at Norwich University during the 1992-93 season as he coached football and track and field. Chinn is a 1983 graduate of Ohio State. He completed his master's degree at Norwich in 1993 and finished his doctorate last summer.
Chinn lives in Grove City with his wife Renee and their two children.
