5: Women's Tennis wins four of nine flights to finish second at PAC
Championships
Our next “13-14 Rewind: Moment of the Year” takes us to October 19,
when the Grove City College women's tennis team competed in the final day of
the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championships at the Pennbriar Club in
Erie, Pa.
Standing in a tight battle with rival Westminster, the Wolverines began the
day by winning conference titles in two of the three doubles flights to keep
their team championship hopes alive. Junior Caroline McGuire and sophomore
Karolina Lagerquist held on for an 8-5 victory over Westminster to win the
first singles crown while sophomore Kendra Tetrick and freshman Linnea
Peters earned an 8-4 win over the Westminster tandem for the second doubles
title.
While the Wolverines ultimately wouldn't win enough of the singles crowns to
upset the Titans, two ladies did earn their first individual conference
championships.
Junior Leah White, the second seed at sixth singles, edged Westminster's
top-seeded Christijana Vucenovic 6-4 in the first set before cruising to a
6-0 win in set two for the upset victory while Peters, the #1-seed at fifth
singles, made it two-for-two by defeating Geneva's Brittany Kress 6-2, 6-2
in the title match.
