8: McManus nets first-half hat trick as women's soccer routs Juniata in
ECAC quarterifnals
Many soccer players don't score three goals
for the entirety of the career, still fewer three goals in a season. To
net a hat trick- scoring three goals in a single game- is one of the top
offensive milestones in a player's career and few achieve it.
On November 13, it took senior forward Becky McManus less than 35
minutes, as the Wolverines cruised to a 6-0 victory over a strong
Juniata team in the quarterfinals of the ECAC South Championship
tournament on their own College Field.
The Eagles entered the tournament as the fifth-seed with an impressive
14-5 record, but they never quite looked like it against the
fourth-seeded Wolverines. McManus scored two goals in the game's first
five minutes and, following a goal from senior forward Sam Weber, added
another in the 35th minute to give Grove City a commanding 4-0 halftime
lead.
Weber added another goal in the second half while junior Nikki Youngs
added a late goal to close the scoring. Senior Tiffany Yost and junior
Kristi Lathrop combined for the shutout in goal.
