19: Durling rallies from two-stroke deficit to win third-straight PAC
MVP award
From the time she arrived on campus at Grove City, junior women's golfer
Esther Durling established herself as one of the premier players in the
Presidents' athletic conference, earning medalist honors in her first
four PAC Fall and Spring Championship events, including a pair of Most
Valuable Performer honors.
As of April 25, the first day of the 2014 PAC Spring Championships, it
looked as if that streak might be in danger. Saint Vincent's Sarah
Rebitch, with whom Durling had battled for top honors at invitationals
all season, held a two-stroke lead after 18 holes by shooting an 82
compared to Durling's 84.
Durling, however, wasn't quite ready to relinquish her spot at the top.
While Rebitch shot an 85 - the second best round of the day - Durling
fired a tournament-best 81 for a two-day total of 165 to earn her
third-consecutive conference MVP award and medalist honors in her
fifth-straight PAC event. Additionally, her score played a large role in
leading the Wolverines to their second PAC title in a row and first-ever
trip to the NCAA Division III Championships.
