Moment 20: Morris powers Wolverine Softball to first PAC doubleheader sweep since 2012

April 26, 2014 continued to be a big day for the Grove City College athletic department, and the Wolverine Softball team wouldn't miss out on being part of the action, staving off a pair of late Thiel pushes to earn a doubleheader sweep of the Tomcats, 6-5 and 6-3.

The sweep was the first in conference play for the Wolverines since an April 2012 sweep of Westminster and the first sweep of Thiel since the 2008 season.

Junior catcher Sarah Morris continued to swing a hot bat for Grove City in the two games, going an impressive 5-for-6 at the plate with six RBI, a home run and a double while Caitlyn Vidovic and Alaina Kunselman each added three hits.

Morris's two-run blast gave the Wolverines a 3-1 lead in the top of the third of game one, but Thiel would answer and take a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth. After each team added a run over the next two innings, Kunselman would provide the game-winning hit, smacking a two-run single in the top of the seventh to give Grove City a decisive 6-5 advantage.

In game two, the Wolverines scored twice in the first on back-to-back RBI singles by Erika Aughton and Morris, and after a Thiel run in the top of the third, Grove City would add another run in the bottom of the third when Kelsey Shirey and Morris hit consecutive doubles.

Thiel would rally to tie the game at 3-3 in the top of the fifth, but Morris had the answer once again, hitting a two-run single up the middle and later scoring on a Vidovic double down the left field line to close the scoring at 6-3.
