GROVE CITY, PA, April 6, 2000--In what felt more like the seventh game of the World Series than Game Seven of the 2000 season, the Lady Wolverines reversed a five-game slide with a doubleheader sweep over defending conference champion Bethany.  Grove City (3-5, 2-0 PAC) won the first game 3-2 and blanked the visiting Bison (13-13-1, 0-2 PAC) in the nightcap 1-0.

Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) tripled and scored the game-winning run in the sixth inning of game one when Megan Wittenwyler (Des Moines, IA/Dowling) grounded to second.  Rachel Russell (Shelbina, MO/South Shelby) tripled in the first two Lady Wolverine runs in the second inning, scoring Lisa Colletti (Richboro, PA/Council Rock), who reached on a walk, and Jessie Renaldo (Sigel, PA/Brookville), who singled.

Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) tossed a three-hit complete game with six strikeouts and just two walks.

Jamie Batchelor (Lebanon, PA/Ann-Cleona) shut out the Bison in the second game, yielding just three hits and one free pass, while striking out one. Bethany, who hit .300 in its first 25 games, batted just .122 (6-49) against Lady Wolverine pitching in the twin bill.

Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace) had a pair of hits and scored the second game's only run in the third. Smith advanced Hable to third base with a single and provoked the run by drawing a wild throw to second on a stolen base attempt.

In the fifth inning, Smith made a diving catch in center field with two outs and two on to preserve the shutout.

The Lady Wolverines played an error-free game in the nightcap, recording 10 fly-ball outs and 10 groundouts.
