WASHINGTON, PA, April 10, 2000--The Lady Wolverines dropped a pair of conference tilts Monday as host Washington & Jefferson used a two-hitter to win the first game, 4-1, and a six-run second inning to win the nightcap, 12-6.
Grove City dropped to 2-2 in the PAC, 3-7 overall. W&J upped its league mark to 2-2 and improved to 4-8 overall.
Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) matched W&J's two-hitter with a two-hit gem of her own in game one, striking out three and allowing just one earned run. Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and Kim Hanson (Olympia, WA/Timberline) each singled to account for Grove City's only hits.
The Lady Wolverines fell behind 9-1 in the second game but rallied with five unanswered runs to trim the deficit to 9-6 after five frames. W&J closed out the scoring with a run in sixth and two in the seventh (GCC was designated home team for second game).
Grove City banged out nine hits in the nightcap, including five for extra bases. Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace) cracked a solo home run in the first -- her first collegiate round-tripper. LeVake, another Minnesotan, went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double. LeVake drove in a pair of runs and scored twice. Rachel Russell (Shelbina, MO/South Shelby) collected two hits in four at-bats, including a run-scoring double. Jessie Reanaldo (Sigel, PA/Brookville) contributed a two-base hit, while Megan Wittenwyler (Des Moines, IA/Dowling), Jamie Batchelor (Lebanon, PA/Ann-Cleona) and Hanson each added singles.
