GCC rallies to earn split at Waynesburg

WAYNESBURG, PA, April 14, 2000--The Lady Wolverines' used a four-run sixth inning to defeat host Waynesburg, 9-8, Friday and earn a split in the Presidents' Athletic Conference doubleheader.   Grove City moved to 6-8 overall, 3-3 in the PAC, while Waynesburg fell to 7-11, 2-2 in the league.

Megan Wittenwyler (Des Moines, IA/Dowling), Lisa Colletti (Richboro, PA/Council Rock), Rachel Russell (Shelbina, MO/South Shelby) and Kim Hanson (Olympia, WA/Timberline) each collected a pair of hits as the Lady Wolverines' totaled 12 safeties in the victory.  Colletti knocked in three runs, including two in the go-ahead sixth. 

Jamie Batchelor (Lebanon, PA/Ann-Cleona) notched the win to improve to 3-4 on the season.  Batchelor set down the first nine batters she faced, striking out the side in the third.  The southpaw recorded a season-high eight strikeouts, while walking just one.

Grove City dropped the first game, 3-2, despite out-hitting the Yellow Jackets, 11-8. Waynesburg opened the scoring with a three-run fifth.  GCC rallied with two in the seventh, but left runners on the corners -- two of nine Lady Wolverines left stranded in the game. 

Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) fanned four and didn't walk a batter.  Jessie Renaldo (Sigel, PA/Brookville) went 3-for-3 at the plate with a triple.  Wittenwyler and Colletti banged out two hits each and finished with four apiece on the day. 

Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace), Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and LeVake had two hits each in the twin bill.  Batchelor and Nari Berarducci (Lake City, PA/Girard) each singled in the 23-hit performance.
