GROVE CITY, PA, April 25, 2000--In a final tune-up before the Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament, the Lady Wolverine softball team dropped a pair of non-league games to visiting La Roche by finals of 14-6 and 4-3.  Grove City fell to 6-12, while La Roche improved to 27-4.

Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) provided the big blast in game one with a three-run homer over the fence in left field -- her first collegiate round-tripper.  LeVake's fifth-inning shot cut the deficit to 6-3.

La Roche rallied with a seven-run sixth before Nicole Hable (Shoreview, MN/Totino-Grace) and Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) led off the bottom of the inning with back-to-back triples.  Lisa Colletti (Richboro, PA/Council Rock) and Jamie Batchelor (Lebanon, PA/Ann-Cleona) added RBI singles to close out the scoring for GCC.  Hable posted two of Lady Wolverines' nine hits in the game.

Batchelor drove in a pair of runs in the nightcap as the L'Wolves went ahead 3-2 in the fourth.  The Lady Redhawks countered with two runs in the fifth and held GCC scoreless over the final three innings.  Smith, Jessie Renaldo (Sigel, PA/Brookville) and Rachel Russell (Shelbina, MO/South Shelby) contributed a pair of hits each.

Grove City opens the PAC doube-elimination tournament Friday against Waynesburg in Bethany, WV. The first pitch is slated for 10:00 a.m.
