First Game Box   Second Game Box

BETHANY, WV, April 19, 2001--The Grove City College softball team (4-10, 2-4 PAC) couldn't recover from a pair of three-run, first-inning deficits as defending conference champion Bethany College (20-12, 5-1 PAC) swept the Lady Wolverines by finals of 7-3 and 3-1 Thursday afternoon.

The Lady Wolverines were victimized by seven errors in the first game, including four in the Bison's three-run first.  Bethany (who was designated the visiting team in Game One) added a run in the top of the second before Grove City rallied with three runs in the bottom of the frame as sophomore CF Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and sophomore 1B Rachel Russell (Shelbina, MO/South Shelby) each drove in a run.  The Bison wouldn't let the Lady Wolverines get any closer, adding single runs in the third, fifth and sixth innings.

Freshman RHP Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) took the loss, despite allowing just one earned run over four complete innings.

Junior RHP Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) turned in a solid outing in Game Two, surrendering just four hits over six innings.   Bethany plated three runs on two hits in the opening frame and managed just two hits over the next five innings.  Junior SS Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls) singled home Smith with the Lady Wolverines' lone tally in the fourth inning.

Smith and Atwood each contributed two hits in the doubleheader.

The Lady Wolverines host Waynesburg College Friday at 3:00 p.m.
