BETHANY, WV, April 27, 2001--After dropping its Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament opener to Thiel, 2-0, the Lady Wolverine softball team staved off elimination by rallying from a 5-0 deficit against Washington & Jefferson with one run in the fourth, four runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to post a 6-5 victory.

Grove City (7-13) will meet Waynesburg Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. with the winner advancing to the semifinals at 3:00 p.m.

Freshman Molly Forney (Annville, PA/Annville-Cleona) lashed a two-out, bases-loaded single to left-center in the bottom of the seventh to win it for the Lady Wolverines, who collected seven of their eight hits in the final two frames.

Junior Stephanie Murphy (Munroe Falls, OH/Stow-Munroe Falls), senior Megan Wittenwyler (Des Moines, IA/Dowling) and Forney each singled home a run in the four-run sixth.  Freshman Kassie Hayes (Grove City, PA/Grove City) and sophomore Ellie Smith (Grove City, PA/Grove City) walked to open the frame and scored. Freshman Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) singled and came around to score.  Junior Laura LeVake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) drove home Murphy with the tying run on a fielder's choice.

Atwood picked up the victory, yielding five runs (one earned) on five hits in seven complete.  Atwood struck out one and walked two.

LeVake tossed a complete-game gem in the Thiel loss, allowing just two unearned runs on four hits, while fanning seven and walking two.  LeVake also accounted for two of the Lady Wolverines' five hits against the Lady Cats.

Murphy recorded a team-high three hits in the two games.
