Lady Wolverines drop pair at Geneva
KOPPEL, PA, March 19, 2002--The Geneva College women's softball team used three unearned runs in the first game and three home runs in the nightcap to post a doubleheader sweep over visiting Grove City College by finals of 5-1 and 6-0 Tuesday afternoon.
In Game One, Lady Wolverine senior P Laura Levake (Faribault, MN/Faribault) scattered five hits in four innings, striking out two and walking none. LeVake surrendered just two earned runs after Geneva jumped out to a 3-0 lead with three unearned runs in the second.
Freshman C Carissa Threewitt (Cupertino, CA/The King's Academy) led off the third inning with a single and scored Grove City's lone run on a ground out by freshman RF Stephanie Briggs (Grove City, PA/Grove City). Geneva starter Jennifer Picard fanned 10 Lady Wolverines and allowed just four hits.
Geneva cracked a two-run homer in the first inning of Game Two, added a solo shot in the second and went deep to lead off a three-run fifth.
LeVake accounted for two of Grove City's four hits in the nightcap, while sophomore P Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) allowed just five hits in four innings of work.
The Lady Wolverines committed just two errors in the twin bill.
Grove City dropped to 1-5 on the season, while Geneva evened its record at 6-6.
