GCC season ends at PAC Tournament

BETHANY, W. Va., April 27, 2002--The Grove City College Lady Wolverines' season ended with a pair of defeats in the Presidents' Athletic Conference softball tournament at Bethany College. Grove City, the tournament's No. 5 seed, dropped a 1-0 decision to Waynesburg in the first round. In the consolation round, second-seeded Thiel downed Grove City, 8-0, in six innings.

Against Waynesburg, sophomore pitcher Allison Atwood (Warren, PA/Warren) struck out six and allowed just five hits in six innings. Atwood also singled twice for Grove City. Waynesburg's Kerri Petko cracked a solo homer in the bottom of the second to account for the game's lone run.

In the consolation matchup with Thiel, the Lady Cats broke a scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth. Thiel added four runs in the fifth and sealed the win with two sixth-inning scores.

Freshman right fielder Steph Briggs (Grove City, PA/Grove City) stroked a pair of singles for Grove City (2-17). Senior pitcher Laura LeVake (Faribault, Minn./Faribault) took the setback after hurling five innings in her final GCC appearance.
