Lady Wolverines split with Seton Hill

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Grove City College softball team opened the 2003 season with a doubleheader split with Seton Hill Thursday evening in Orlando, Fla. The Lady Wolverines dropped the opener 7-1 but bounced back for a 10-9 victory in the nightcap.

Center fielder Ellie Smith (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) sparked Grove City in the second game by going 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Allison Atwood (Warren, Pa./Warren) went 3-for-3 with a pair of runs batted in. In the circle, freshman Jes Flick (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) pitched a complete game, earning her first collegiate victory.

Smith went 2-for-4 in the opener while Atwood stroked a run-scoring single. Atwood took the defeat for Grove City.

The Lady Wolverines return to action Sunday with a split doubleheader against Susquehanna (Pa.) and Dubuque (Iowa) in Orlando.
