Waynesburg eliminates Grove City
BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College softball team fell out of the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament with a 6-3 loss to Waynesburg Saturday morning in a loser's bracket game at top-seeded Bethany College.
Waynesburg jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first and led throughout the duration of the game. Grove City (14-9) picked up two runs in the second as sophomore Alicia Stefanak (West Middlesex, Pa./West Middlesex) tripled in freshman Lauren Carlson (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) while junior Abigail Russell (Shelbina, Mo./South Shelby) followed with a sacrifice fly.
The Yellow Jackets tacked on three more runs in the fourth, however, knocking starting pitcher Carlson from the circle. Carlson took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 3 2/3 innings. Senior Allison Atwood (Warren, Pa./Warren) pitched the final 3 1/3 innings, permitting just one hit.
Grove City picked up its third run in the bottom of the fourth as sophomore Jes Flick (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) was hit by a pitch and eventually scored on an error.
Carlson and Stefanak both had two hits, as did junior shortstop Rachel Romance (East Springfield, Pa./Northwestern).
