Bethany sweeps Grove City

BETHANY, W. Va. -- The Grove City College softball team fell to 3-9 overall and 0-2 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Wednesday afternoon with a pair of losses to Bethany in Grove City's PAC opener. Bethany (11-8, 2-0 PAC) won the first game 7-0, then secured a 12-0 5-inning win in the nightcap.

Senior right fielder Steph Briggs (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) had Grove City's lone hit in the first game, a one-out single in the top of the seventh that broke up a no-hit bid by Bethany ace Romney Waters. Junior pitcher Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings.

In Game Two, Bethany jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the top of the first. Sophomore third baseman Andrea Settle (Pylesville, Md./Harford Christian) and senior left fielder Kelly Cozad (Franklin, Pa./Franklin) each had singles for the Wolverines.

Junior pitcher Jes Flick (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) took the loss, allowing five earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Sophomore Lauren Carlson (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) and Smith each pitched in relief.

Grove City will host Pitt-Bradford Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
