Tornadoes take two from Grove City

GROVE CITY, Pa. The Grove City College softball team fell to 8-14 overall Tuesday afternoon as visiting Geneva swept both ends of a non-conference doubleheader from the Wolverines at College Field. The NAIA member Golden Tornadoes won the opener 3-0, then held on for a 2-1 win in the nightcap.

Sophomore Lauren Carlson (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) fired 5 2/3 innings of scoreless relief in the nightcap. She allowed just four hits and did not walk a batter. Junior Jes Flick (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 1 1/3 innings.

In the opener, the Wolverines managed just a pair of singles. Senior Steph Briggs (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) and freshman Kristen Hughes (Volant, Pa./Grove City) each had one of the hits. Junior pitcher Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) allowed just two earned runs in seven innings but took the defeat.

The first game featured a 53-minute weather delay in the top of the sixth while the second game was stopped for 10 minutes in the fourth inning. Grove City will visit La Roche Thursday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader.
