Waynesburg blanks Grove City

WAYNESBURG, Pa. – The Grove City College softball team dropped an 8-0, 6-inning decision to host Waynesburg Wednesday afternoon in a Presidents' Athletic Conference Championship Tournament quarterfinal game.

The fifth-seeded Wolverines will play a loser's bracket game Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at Bethany against either No. 2 Washington and Jefferson or No. 3 Westminster.

Fourth-seeded Waynesburg broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the bottom of the fifth, then added three more in the sixth to invoke the 8-run "mercy" rule. Grove City (10-19) managed just one hit against Waynesburg pitcher Shana D'Aurora, a single by sophomore right fielder Kristy Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian). Bogusz also stole a base.

Junior Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) took the loss, allowing two earned runs in 5 2/3 innings. Three Grove City errors led to six unearned runs.
