Grove City now 7-4-1 after twinbill at Hiram

HIRAM, Ohio – The Grove City College softball team is now 7-4-1 overall after its non-conference doubleheader at Hiram Tuesday afternoon. Grove City dropped Game One of the doubleheader, 4-1. The teams played to a 3-3, darkness-induced tie in the second game.

In the nightcap, Grove City scored twice with two outs in the top of the seventh to tie the game. Sophomore Kristen Hughes (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) walked while junior Paula Rice (Fredericksburg, Ohio/Waynedale) followed with a single.

Following a walk to junior Kristy Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian), freshman shortstop Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) roped a two-run single. Fisher went 2-for-4 in Game Two.

Sophomore Abby Greiner (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) singled twice while junior Andrea Settle (Pylesville, Md./Harford Christian) doubled. Freshman pitcher Julia Coulombe (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) pitched seven innings and allowed seven hits. She took a no-hitter into the fourth before Hiram posted a three-run fourth inning.

Grove City took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the opener as Greiner walked and later scored on a Settle single. However, Hiram tied the game with an unearned run in the fourth, then took the lead with a three-run sixth inning.

Senior pitcher Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) took the loss for the Wolverines, allowing three earned runs in six innings. Smith is now 4-2 this year.

Fisher doubled and singled for the Wolverines while Settle went 2-for-3.

Grove City will visit Geneva Thursday afternoon at 3 p.m. in a non-conference doubleheader.
