Westminster sweeps Grove City
NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The Grove City College softball team fell to 7-10-1 overall and 0-4 in the Presidents' Athletic Conference Tuesday by dropping both ends of a PAC doubleheader at Westminster. Westminster won the opener, 2-0, then picked up a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
Westminster (12-14, 4-2 PAC) scored twice in the third inning to account for all of the scoring in the opener. Senior pitcher Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) limited Westminster to just four hits but Grove City managed just five hits in the defeat.
Freshman shortstop Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) doubled and singled in the opener for Grove City. Smith struck out two and did not walk a batter.
In Game Two, Grove City took a 2-1 lead in the third inning but Westminster rallied with three runs in the fifth to take the lead for good. Sophomore right fielder Kristen Hughes (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) doubled and singled for the Wolverines while junior left fielder Kristy Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian) singled and scored.
Freshman Julia Coulombe (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) took the loss for Grove City, allowing one earned run in four innings. Smith allowed one earned run over the final three innings.
The Wolverines will visit Penn State Behrend April 19 in a non-conference doubleheader at 3 p.m.
