W&J wins suspended game, 9-3

GROVE CITY, Pa. – The Grove City College softball team fell to 9-15-1 overall Friday as Presidents' Athletic Conference rival Washington and Jefferson earned a 9-3 win over the Wolverines at College Field in the completion of a suspended game from April 21. The win completes a doubleheader sweep for Washington and Jefferson.

Junior center fielder Paula Rice (Fredericksburg, Ohio/Waynedale) doubled twice for Grove City (9-15-1, 1-8 PAC) while senior first baseman Jes Flick (Boyers, Pa./Moniteau) went 2-for-3. Sophomore right fielder Kristen Hughes (Grove City, Pa./Grove City) added a double for the Wolverines.

Grove City scored twice in the fifth as junior Lauren Carlson (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) scored on a Rice double. Rice then scored on a single from freshman shortstop Amy Fisher (Streetsboro, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian). In the seventh, Hughes doubled and scored on a single by junior left fielder Kristy Bogusz (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Cuyahoga Valley Christian).

Freshman pitcher Julia Coulombe (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) took the loss for Grove City, allowing six runs in 3 2/3 innings. Senior pitcher Sarah Smith (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) allowed three runs in 3 1/3 innings of relief.

The game was suspended by rain and lightning in Washington, Pa. April 21 with the Presidents leading in the bottom of the first, 3-0.

Grove City will visit PAC rival Bethany Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.
